Garage does not currently add sales tax to purchases made on the marketplace. Whether sales tax applies depends on who is buying, what is being bought, and where it will be used or registered.
Buying a vehicle
Many fire departments, EMS agencies, and other municipal or nonprofit buyers are exempt from sales tax. If tax does apply, it is usually paid when you title and register the vehicle in your state. If you finance the purchase, your lender may collect it instead. Check with your state's motor vehicle agency for the rules that apply to you.
Buying equipment
Whether tax applies depends on your organization's tax status and the state where the equipment is delivered.
Tax-exempt buyers generally owe no sales tax.
If your organization isn't tax-exempt, you may owe use tax to your state.
Check with your finance team or tax advisor if you're not sure.
Selling on Garage
Sellers are responsible for understanding any tax obligations tied to their own sales, based on their entity type and state.
