How to ensure you reserve an apparatus

Understanding how trucks are reserved on Garage—and what steps buyers need to take to avoid missing out.

Updated over 4 months ago

At Garage, we’re here to help buyers and sellers connect efficiently and transparently. We understand how important it is for buyers to plan inspections, engage with sellers, and ultimately secure the right vehicle. This article clarifies how reservations work on our platform—and what steps you can take to ensure you don’t miss out on a truck you’re interested in.

Who’s Responsible for What?

Buyers 👤

Buyers are responsible for reserving a truck if they’re serious about purchasing it. While there are many ways to express interest—such as messaging a seller in Garage chat, scheduling a virtual or in-person inspection, or notifying us of board approval—a vehicle is only reserved once a buyer submits either:

  • A Letter of Intent (LOI), or

  • A deposit

Because the market for emergency vehicles moves quickly, especially for fire trucks, interest alone does not hold a vehicle. Trucks are often reserved or sold within days—or even hours—of being listed. We encourage buyers to act quickly if they’re ready to move forward.

Sellers 🚒

Sellers retain full control over their listings until a truck is officially reserved. They are free to speak with multiple buyers and accept whichever offer (deposit or LOI) comes first.

Garage 🤝

Garage is a marketplace facilitator—we connect buyers and sellers, help them communicate, and provide services like freight coordination, payment handling, and warranty support. We are not brokers and do not get involved in negotiating bids or controlling the order of offers. Our goal is to keep things fair, efficient, and transparent for all parties.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you're serious about a truck:

  • Message the seller promptly to ask questions or schedule an inspection

  • Communicate your intent clearly—especially if board approval is needed

  • Move quickly to submit an LOI or deposit to reserve the truck

Once a deposit or LOI is submitted, we’ll mark the listing accordingly and notify other interested buyers that it’s been reserved.
