How freight works on Garage

From quote to delivery: What to expect when using Garage for freight

Garage offers freight coordination as a value-added service for any apparatus purchased through our platform. Here’s how it works for both sellers and buyers, along with what to expect from the Bill of Lading (BOL) process.


🚚 For Sellers

Once freight is booked, the carrier will reach out directly to coordinate pickup. If you (the seller) will be unavailable during the proposed pickup time, please let us know immediately so we can reschedule with the carrier.

Seller responsibilities:

  • Loading the apparatus: The seller is responsible for loading the item onto the freight truck.

  • In most cases, loading simply means driving the vehicle onto a flatbed—no forklift or lifting equipment needed.

  • Carrier’s role: Carriers handle transportation only, and do not assist with loading or unloading.

  • Need help loading? If you don’t have the means to load the vehicle, notify Garage as soon as possible. We’ll work to find a solution.

⚠️ Important: Responsibility for the apparatus remains with the seller until it is successfully loaded onto the truck.


📦 For Buyers

You can use the “Freight Quote” tool on any listing page to get an approximate freight cost. This quote is generally accurate but may adjust slightly based on final vehicle dimensions and weight.

Booking Freight:

  1. Reach out to Garage when you're ready to move forward.

  2. A Garage team member will:

    • Confirm the final freight cost

    • Send you an invoice

  3. Once the invoice is paid, Garage will greenlight the carrier to begin pickup and delivery.

Buyer responsibilities:

  • Be available (or let us know if unavailable) during the scheduled delivery window.

  • Unloading usually just means driving the vehicle off the flatbed, so it’s generally straightforward.

  • Buyers are responsible for unloading, but if you foresee any challenges, let us know in advance.


📄 Bill of Lading (BOL)

The Bill of Lading is a standard document that acts as both:

  • A receipt for the item being transported

  • A contract between the shipper (seller) and the carrier

What to Know:

  • The BOL is issued at pickup and should be signed by the seller once the apparatus is loaded.

  • It confirms that the vehicle was released to the carrier in the condition described.

  • At delivery, the buyer (or someone on their behalf) should inspect the vehicle before signing the BOL to confirm that no damage occurred during transit.

  • If any damage is noticed, it should be noted directly on the BOL before signing and reported to Garage immediately.

The BOL helps protect both buyers and sellers in case of shipping issues or disputes.
